Centrestage will be staging its biggest ever entertainment extravaganza in the city as impersonator/vocalist extraordinaire, Danny Fisher, heads up a cast of 18 including the Centrestage All-Star Band, to present The Vegas Superstars at the Boardwalk’s Vodacom Amphitheatre from 1-11 October, and on in East London - 14 to 18 OCT at The Guild - call 043-7430704
This time the focus moves from favourite bands to our much loved showbiz personalities as Tom Jones, Rod Stewart, Barry Mannilow and Elvis Presley will be brought back larger than life by the talented Danny Fisher.
Guest artist Melvyn Matthews will add his dynamic charisma to Engelbert Humperdinck, James Brown, Lionel Richie and Frank Sinatra.
What would Vegas be without the divas? Donna Africa will explode onstage in the guise of Shirley Bassey and Tina Turner, while Tara-Jane Metzler will embody the crazy comedy antics of the Divine Miss M, Bette Midler. The diminutive but big-voiced Eloise Potgieter will also pay tribute to Celine Dion.
Danny’s angels – daughters Danielle and Joanne – join the all-star ensemble to lift the lid on Cher.
The energetic Wayne Kallis will make his usual impactful impression with his take on Billy Joel, while ‘Cats’ star Chireen Fereira joins the Centrestage All-Star Band on backing vocals.
The Centrestage Horny section, headed up once more by Sean Lyons blow up a storm, while John Dickin will complete the largest Centrestage lineup to date by adding percussion to the big Vegas sound.
Produced specially for The Boardwalk’s eighth birthday, Vegas Superstars will be hosted by the King of Rock Roll (Fisher). As Elvis, he will be introducing the audience to many his contemporaries who appeared on the Vegas stages at the same time as him.
“Vegas is Elvis’ old haunt, and we will be celebrating some of the best entertainment the Strip has ever seen,” says Centrestage’s show creator Gary Hemmings.
“The Vegas Superstars starts where our previous Elvis tribute The Wonder of You left off, taking the Centrestage All-Star band to even greater heights,” says Hemmings.
“The show features such a wonderful songbook packed with well known standards, big vocal and band arrangements and great sing-along fun music”, says Hemmings.
The two and a half hour extravaganza includes songs such as Rod Stewart’s Maggie May and
Do You Think I’m Sexy, Tom Jonse’s Not Unusual, Delilah and Kiss, Barry Mannilows’
Copacabana, I Write the Songs, Mandy and Cant Smile without You, Humperdinck’s Please Release Me and The Last Waltz, Sinatra’s My Way, Shirley Basseys Never Never and My Life, Cher’s Walking in Memphis, Strong Enough and Believe, amongst others.
Lighting ace Mike Broderick will once again transform the Boardwalk Amphitheatre stage with his equally extravagant lighting and stage design.
