PINK FLOYD SHINES ON IN CENTRESTAGE TRIBUTE

Pink Floyd fans are in for a treat as Centrestage presents its latest musical tribute “Shine On: A Tribute To Pink Floyd” at the Uptown Theatres, from 7-8 August, and in East London from 14,15 August!!!

Musical director Donovan Hattingh says, “This is a dream come true for me. Michael McAuley (bassist) and I have been huge Floyd fans since we were about 12 years old. It’s a rare opportunity to see Michael smiling on stage! I’ve wanted to pay tribute to the band that gave birth to my passion for music for many years now, and finally I have my chance.”

The show showcases songs from the classic albums “Dark Side Of The Moon” and “The Wall”, but also features songs from “Wish You Were Here”, “Animals” and “The Division Bell”, amongst others. The format of the show is based on a typical live Floyd performance, such as can be seen on the live DVD “Pulse”.

Featured in the band are Hattingh on guitar, keyboards and vocals, Alan Kozak on guitar and vocals, Khanya Matomela on keyboards, Derrick Badenhorst on drums and Michael McAuley on bass. Backing vocals will be provided by Lelane Fourie and Lani Botha, who get their chance to shine in the breathtaking “Great Gig In The Sky” from the album “Dark Side Of The Moon”.

Says Hattingh: “Picking songs from Floyd’s vast catalogue was extremely challenging. There are so many songs and they’re all good! We have a set list that we hope will please fans of the band by being as broad a representation of the band’s output as possible.”

“ The real joy for me personally in putting this show together has been getting the songs just right and watching the pleasure and excitement grow in my fellow musicians. We’re all fans of the band and spirits at the rehearsals have been extremely high.”

Lighting will once again be done by Mike Broderick, himself a Floyd fan, so Centrestage patrons can expect a dazzling lighting display, along with visual elements from live Floyd shows projected onto a big screen behind the band.
