Centrestage’s ‘Phil Collins – In The Air Tonight’ tribute show this weekend

Port Elizabeth’s premier entertainment company’s most ambitious show to date, the ‘Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight’ tribute show, returns to The Boardwalk Amphitheatre in Port Elizabeth for one night only on 8 January 2016.

The role of the Genesis drummer will be played by ex-Eminent Child front-man Brad Peens and musical director Wayne Kallis respectively, backed by a 13-piece Centrestage band, with a four piece brass sectioned modelled on Collins’ famous Paris live performances.

The show features the novel introduction of two drum kits performing at the same time as Kevin Mattheus and Devon Van Rooyen open the show with the traditional explosion of percussion.

Shawn Lyon heads up the brass section, with Marlon Louis and Kyle Du Preez on trombone, and Andrea Morris on sax and vocals.

The ace keyboard duo of Fenlin Pitie and Deborah Everard will reunite, along with bass player Andrew Warneke and guitarist Arno Erasmus, with Tara-Jane Stern back on vocals.

The Phil Collins songbook reads like a hit parade in its own right, with no less than 29 beloved songs being featured.

Songs such as ‘Easy Lover’, ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’, ‘You’ll Be in My Heart’, ‘Separate Lives’, ‘I Can’t Stop Loving You’, ‘Against All Odds’, ‘Groovy Kind of Love’ and ‘Another Day in Paradise’, amongst others, will be covered by Brad Peens.

Kallis kicks in with the rockier edged material, covering evergreens such as ‘Sussudio’, ‘I Wish It would Rain’, ‘In The Air Tonight’, ‘I Can’t Dance’, ‘Invisible Touch’, ‘Abacab’ and ‘One More Night’.

The band also takes on the show-stopping mainly acapella version of Cindy Lauper’s True Colours, taken from Collins’ Farewell Tour.
