“Madness, like stupidity, is an entirely subjective affair!”

Rationality is put to the sword and things will tend to get a bit loony at The Catalina Theatre from 23 March as the straight-jacket comedy ‘Gino Fabbri is Completely Nuts’ takes Centrestage at the popular Wilson's Wharf venue.
The rubber-faced comedic antics of Gino Fabbri and his “side-chick” Donna Africa are all geared up to entertain Durban audiences in this irrepressible comedy review which sets out to prove that madness, like stupidity, is an entirely subjective affair!

“There is no age restriction ... only a money restriction. But don’t worry ... the jokes are free.”

Fabbri has delighted Cape Town, Eastern Cape and national corporate audiences with his off-beat character-driven humour.
Fabbri’s recent collaboration with fellow funnyman Barry Hilton culminated in a celebrated season of their joint comedy show ‘Funny You Should Say That’ – and the ever popular ‘Toast’ , played to sell-out shows receiving rave reviews!
Says Fabbri –
‘Gino Fabbri is Completely Nuts is MUCH better than other one-man comedy shows, because it also has a woman in it!’
This introduces his compatriot in crime, the leggy diva with an explosive voice, Donna Africa, who lends a modicum of class and dignity to proceedings as her persona’s act as a soundboard for Fabbri’s craziness.
Described as a cross between Shirley Bassey and Tina Turner, the talented songstress is a sought after commodity on the national corporate entertainment circuit. She lends her spectacular voice to some foot-stomping latest chart toppers between proceedings too.
Africa has been the ace fronting vocalist heading up many of Centrestage’s biggest music review hit shows, including The Magnificent 7, and The Magnificent 7ii
‘Sanity’ is a word not often associated with Fabbri – or more specifically, with the hair-brained assortment of loony-bin characters with the strangest outlooks on life which he portrays!
Completely Nuts has less to do with squirrels and everything to do with the crazy, balmy, loopy, half-witted perspectives and shenanigans which Gino’s characters get up to, most of whom turn out to be “about as sharp as a bowling ball”!

Take his traffic officer Helmut Ramspoed, a self-proclaimed superhero of traffic ordinance compliance, who takes his job just a little too seriously to be called mentally stable!
See the world through the wine-stained eyes of the colourful Virgil September from Mitchells Plain or meet the terrifically wealthy Sheik Rattle n Roll, who puts a price tag on everything and shows how different priorities can be when money flows like oil.
West meets East as the somewhat irritating know-it-all oriental Footsa Kionaai of dubious sexual orientation explains how China is taking over the world - and follow the on-going saga of self-delusion as pheromone-laden Latin lover Minuto Peniso woos the ladies in the audience and shares his unfortunate stories of conquest and virility.
Engage in the small dreams of the “woefully under-endowed in the talent department” pop-idol wannabe Ruan Hollywood, as he deals with his self-esteem and parental issues whilst playing a buckled toaster with a pair of forks, earnestly sharing the tragi-comic minutia of his small-town trip down the road to fame.
You’ll also be introduced to taxi driver, record producer and funeral impresario Gotitsa Whiti, who defends his heritage while longing for all things American!
These are just a few of the defective personalities you’ll meet as “madness takes its toll!” in this mal-adjusted loony bin of a show which will have you rolling in the aisles and even questioning your own sanity!

The multi-talented Fabbri, who is also a top class drummer, demonstrates another arrow in his quiver as he ends the show by taking his audience through a hilarious roller-coaster ride of the different dance styles as they evolved from the early fifties until today.
Gino’s characters share an inability to accurately perceive exactly what is going on around them, all the while trying to compensate for their short-comings. In doing so, hilarious consequences ensue as Fabbri moves from naughty stand-up comedian to quirky singer.
Describing the show as an “antidote to deep thinking”, Fabbri says “Hiding behind the guise of these dysfunctional persona’s grants one an enormous amount of licence!”.

“Warning – this show contains Nuts!”

“I regularly get to say what I have always wanted to – often exactly what everyone is thinking, but what they are too polite to say out aloud.”
“My characters let their flaws hang out, oblivious to the fact that we can all see them. I think its funny to audiences because they recognize their own shortcomings in these characters – and we are all secretly afraid that our own insecurities are as clearly visible for the world to see!!”
So get committed - come walk the tightrope between sanity and madness with Gino and Donna and find out for yourself if Gino is indeed “nuttier than a pile of squirrel droppings”, in the full knowledge that one thing will always be certain :
You’ll be none the wiser after seeing this show!

“There is no age restriction ... only a money restriction”, jokes Fabbri – “But don’t worry ... the jokes are free!”
