The Monsters come out to play
Lovers of the rock music greats are in for a special treat as Centrestage presents a brand new season of its latest rock epic entitled The Monsters of Rock, scheduled to run for four performances from Friday 9 July at their new Lighthouses venue at the Boardwalk.
The Monsters of Rock will see the Centrestage All-Star band paying tribute to no less than 8 of the world’s greatest guitar -playing and hard rock vocalist legends, namely Guns n Roses, Aerosmith, The Police, ZZ Top, Metallica, Dire Straits, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin.
Joining the Centrestage All-star band for the first time is the blues-influenced guitarist Alan Kozak, who lends his smooth vocals to the persona of Sting in The Police segment. Kozak is no stranger to the stage, having sung as Neil Young and having played bass in the previous hit Centrestage encounter The Folk Lords, as well as starring in their Pink Floyd tribute Shine On.
The stalwart and highly energetic vocalist Wayne Kallis will also front the immensely popular Centrestage ensemble, along with guitarist extraordinaire Donovan Hattingh. Gino Fabbri will step into the shoes of rubber-lips Mick Jagger, while the rest of the outfit will be made up of Khanya Matomela on keyboards and Mike McAuley on bass.
The show features a smorgasbord of classic rock, ranging from seventies blues influenced hard rock through to bands who are still remarkably churning out the hits. Included are early Police favourites such as Every Breath You Take, I Can’t Stand Losing You, Message in a Bottle and Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, while Guns n Roses fans can look forward to songs such as November Rain, Sweet Child of Mine and Paradise City.
America’s top selling rock band of all time, Aerosmith, will see Kallis emulating Steve Tyler’s soaring and powerful vocals on masterpieces such as Living on the Edge, Crazy, Love in the Elevator and Don’t Want to Miss A Thing.
Hattingh and co will don their trademark long beards to perform the definitive ZZ Top hits Tush, Le Grange and Sharp Dressed Man and will showcase the Mark Knofler’s guitar wizardry in a Dire Straits segment which will include the likes of Money For Nothing, Sultans of Swing and Brothers in Arms in their repertoire.
Fabbri will reinterpret Mick Jagger’s timeless Rolling Stones favourites as only he can as he performs Jumping Jack Flash, Start Me Up, Can’t Always Get What You Want, Ruby Tuesday and Angie with his signature Jagger pouting before the ultimate Monster of Rock, Led Zeppelin, will be saluted in fine style with iconic hits such as Black Dog, Rock N Roll, Stairway to Heaven and Whole Lot of Love.
The new venue will be a first for Centrestage, with the Lighthouses Sports Bar offering patrons the opportunity to watch the show seated at tables in an intimate cabaret environment – and will allow them to bring their own picnic baskets along to the show.
