SWINGING LIKE A STAR
FROM BIG BAND TO HOLLYWOOD – MICHAEL BUBLE TAKES CENTRESTAGE
Two of Centrestage’s most popular frontmen return to PE for a one-night only celebration of the music of the rocking swinging modern-day Sinatra Micheal Buble at Old Grey on 19 August.
The show is entitled ‘Swinging Like a Star – from Big Band to Hollywood: Michael Buble takes Centrestage’.
Jace Bowren brings his wealth of international experience gleaned from having played stages and luxury ships all over the world to the fore as he reunites with Thuba Myeki, fresh from a string of television and musical ventures in Jhb.
Sparks fly as the big band sounds of Michael Buble are playfully and skillfully recreated with a sense of flair and showmanship which eminates from the stage maturity of these now seasoned performers.
For long time Buble enthusiasts, the show combines a spirited sense of interaction, fun and great vocal harmonies to pay tribute to the raconteur showman whose exuberant on-stage personality is matched only by his incredible performances and consummate re-arrangements of the classics.
Brilliant backing tracks will emulate the grandiose sound which Michael Buble has made his own, reinventing the music of a bygone era with a new fresh sound which has added millions of new followers to the legacy of the big band genre.
At the same time Michael Buble has already carved out a place in history for himself as a consummate pop star with self-penned hits such as Everything, Still haven’t met you yet, Lost, Hollywood, Home and his latest hit It’s a Beautiful Day, which have become new household favorites in their own right.
Buble’s personal magnetism has seen him becoming an icon in the same realm as his mentors like, Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Sammy Davis Junior and Tony Bennett. Myeki and Bowren will not only bring their personal love of the big band classics to the fore, but will also show how their own voices and stage personalities have matured to take on the huge task of paying tribute to their own icon.
From the dramatic traditional Cry Me A River opening to big band classics such as I’ve Got the World on a String, Mr Bojangles, All of Me, Me and Mrs Jones, Mac the Knife and That’s Life – and including reinterpretations of contemporary songs like It Had Better Be Tonight, Heartache Tonight, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Crazy Love and How Sweet it Is to Be Loved By You, to the big love songs such as Buble’s show-stopping Song for You and From This Moment, the show offers an unbeatable mixture of class, sophistication and variety.
Additional classics such as Feeling Good, Come Fly With Me, For Once in My Life, Hold On, Sway and Buble’s version of the Maroon 5 hit This Love are also included, as well as some surprises from the new album.
Jace and Thuba started their Centrestage careers as part of the boyband Escape, and also performed in their acclaimed cabaret The Nuvo Retro Topsy Turvy Music Show.
Tickets cost R120 each or R100 for 8 or more, with pensioners paying R100 and R80 for 8 or more and Children under 18 half price. Call Wendy on 082 661 6921 to book.
