Soaring harmonies, intricate acoustic guitar delights and a songbook jam packed with popular hits all combine as Centrestage will be taking it to the limit one more time, recreating the Hell Freezes Over magic of The Eagles at Old Grey. After sellout shows - we have 2 final extra extra shows on Fri 10 June & a special Midweek show on Wed 15 June at Old Grey!
The show is modelled on two of the Eagles’s famous reunion concerts – the 1994 concert regarding which Henley was famously quoted following an acrimonious breakup 13 years earlier ‘would only happen when hell freezes over’ – and their 2005 Farewell Tour, which featured beautiful updated arrangements of the classic beloved Eagles songs.
Andre Strydom plays the role of Timothy B. Schmit, Wayne Kallis is Don Henley, Alan Kozak fronts as Joe Walsh and Sandy Robbie fills the shoes of Glen Frey, who died tragically in January earlier this year.
‘The Eagles are far more sophisticated than the country rockers they appear to be’, says long-time Eagles fan Alan Kozak.
‘Complex, lush harmonies, unforgettable medleys and snarling guitar riffs with big teeth…150 million records later they are still one of the best ensembles on the planet’, says Kozak.
For drummer Kevin Matheus, the Eagles are iconic country rockers whose Crosby Stills and Nash-styled harmonies are backed by very intricate guitar parts.
‘Our biggest challenge has been to try to get as close as possible to their incredibly tight harmony sound and very distinctive voices’, says musical director Sandy Robbie.
‘Their song-writing was phenomenal’, he continued, ‘producing amongst others one of the most classic rock songs of all time in Hotel California. I am really enjoying the cohesive element which is present in the band lineup for this show.
‘I am really looking forward to performing Seven Bridges Road’, said percussionist/second keyboardist Devon Van Rooyen. This is a great opportunity to shift the focus off the instruments and onto the vocals and is one of my favourite light/shade moments in the show’.
Deborah Everard is the main keyboard player in the seven-man lineup, with all seven performers joining in on vocals.
The show features evergreens such as Take It Easy, Lying Eyes, One Of These Nights, Desperado, Take It To The Limit, The Heat is On, Heartache Tonight, Tequila Sunrise, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Dirty Laundry, Life In The Fast Lane and New Kid In Town amongst others.
These are all performed with the trademark Centrestage musical precision, attention to detail, intensely accurate instrumental work, stand-out vocals, heartfelt love of the music itself and balance between showmanship, entertainment value and an authentic approach.
Tickets cost R160pp and R140 for 8 or more - Block bookings - Wendy on 082 661 6921.
