East London’s brand new conference and entertainment centre, The Venue@Hemingways, opens its doors in high 80’s style as Centrestage presents The Crazy 80’s at the stylish new dinner theatre venue from 12-15 December.

This will be the very first opportunity for patrons to enjoy this splendid new upmarket facility as the new-look 10-piece Centrestage All-Star band gears up for an extraordinary party!

Taking a light-hearted look back at the wonderful music of the decade which spawned lyrca, bad taste, outrageous fashion, the mullet hairstyle and neon…stuff, Centrestage offers patrons the inaugural chance to dine on a full scrumptious pre-show buffet - and to be entertained at the same time! Furthermore, The Crazy 80’s Partytime Edition also offers them the chance to either watch the interactive proceedings or to revel on the specially laid out dance-floor. Click here to view the seating plan.

The 80’s was a schizophrenic decade – an era which the fashion police clearly forgot - which provided the now nostalgic sound track to halcyon days of the middle-aged of today.

Musically, stadium rock, new wave, electronic and pop metal were blended and commercial, catchy hooks and increased pop aesthetic was embraced. This was the age which launched a new level of lighters aloft, with the marriage of guitar and keyboards creating an absolutely distinctive sound for the time.

Against this backdrop, the 10 piece Centrestage All-Star band will recreate the huge 80’s sound with the same kind of authenticity and sheer energetic entertainment which was so apparent in their previous Magnificent 7 outings.

The show features special “guest” appearances by the likes of Michael Jackson, Modonna, Whitney Houston, Prince, Bruce Springstein, Boy George, Tina Turner, Bob Marley, Bon Jovi and Cindy Lauper, to name a few of the colourful icons of our the misspent youth.

All the top Favourite Centrestage performers are featured in the lineup, such as the inimitable drummer Gino Fabbri, the energetic Wayne Kallis and the sexy Donna Africa and Tara-Jane Metzler.

Consummate frontman Andre Strydom, known for his performances up front as Neil Diamond and The Bee Gees’ Barry Gibb, is on bass, whilst the scintillating talents of Sherid Van Rooyen will head up the guitar department. Popular ace vocalist Thuba Myeki completes the power-packed lineup.

Keyboardist extraordinaire Debbie Quick joins veteran Khanya Matomela on the ivories and specialised 80’s synth sounds, whilst the Eastern Cape’s darlings of brass, Shawn Lyons, plays a range of instruments and effects from trumpet to sax and trombone through special vocalisers to help recreate the huge 80s sound with trademark Centrestage authenticity.

The Crazy 80’s is jam-packed with hits by the likes of Dexys Midnight Runners, Journey, Bananarama, Roxette, Paul Simon, Men at Work and KC and the Sunshine Band, 80’s classics such as Come on Eileen, Beds Are Burning, Jump, Don’t Stop Believing, 500 Miles, Dancing on the Ceiling and Sledgehammer are amongst those will be included in the vibrant mix.

“For those aged between 40 and 50 years old, this is the music which represented their post-matric years – which is why the show is billed as being ‘the soundtrack to the best time of your life’”, says Centrestage owner Gary Hemmings.
