Abbamania is set to enfold the Sand Du Plessis Theatre as Ofm teams up with production powerhouse Centrestage to bring the hit Abba tribute ‘Absolutely Abba’ to Bloemfontein on 29 and 30 March.

The scintillating 10-piece Centrestage band promises a feel-good tribute to the super swinging Swedes from Stockholm, recreating all the thrills and excitement of a live Abba concert.

Along with impressive musical virtuosity of the band and the rollicking entertainment they embody, a distinguishing signature of the Centrestage approach is the authenticity with which the complex studio vocal arrangements of the Abba sound are recreated live on stage.

The evergreen Abba songbook of the 70’s has gained a whole new generation of younger fans who were not yet born in the heyday of Abba, but were introduced to their simple, nostalgic, catchy sing-along pop tunes through the ‘Mama Mia’ and ‘Here We Go Again’ movies.

Absolutely Abba takes in beloved hits such as Waterloo, Super Trouper, Chiquitita, Fernando, SOS, Voulez-Vous, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Knowing Me Knowing You, Money Money Money, Mama Mia and Dancing Queen.

Brand new additions made popular again by the movies include As Good As New, If it Wasn’t for the Nights, Our Last Summer and Hole in Your Soul, while Does Your Mother Know, Take A Chance on Me and Rock Me make for popular lighter moments, contrasted by the big Abba ballads such as The Winner Takes It All, Thank You for the Music, I Have A Dream and Andante Andante.

Kerry Hiles and Tara-Jane Stern front the band as Agnetha and Anni-Frid, with Heidi Jansen and Kerry-Lee Jeffrey joining them on backing vocals.

Keyboard maestros James Smith and Khanya Matomela join up with musical director Wayne Kallis on acoustic guitar, Andrew Warneke on bass, ex-girl-group Clout guitarist Sandy Robbie on lead guitar and Kevin Mattheus on drums.

The Eastern Cape based Centrestage will last be remembered by some for presenting their hit shows The Magnificent 7 at the Sand Du Plessis theatre back in 2007 – as well as Absolutely Abba – both to great acclaim more than a decade ago!

The evening performances of Absolutely Abba at the Sand Du Plessis Theatre start at 8pm on 29 and 30 March.

A special 2pm matinee show is offered on Saturday 30 March, with tickets for under 18’s specially reduced to R100.
